Langara College - Department of Mathematics and Statistics
Instructional Resources
There is lots of help available for the Langara Math or Stats student.
In addition to class meeting times, each instructor also schedules
several
hours per week of "office hours" during
which
it is possible to obtain individual assistance with problems or ... We
also have about 18 hours per week of instructor time scheduled in the Math
Activity Centre aka "Gold Room"
where
students can go for further help. The M.A.C. also contains a videotape
viewer with a number of useful tapes on various aspects of course
material,
and computers where students can work with an instructor's assistance
if needed in one or other of our software packages:
StatGraphicsPro(SGP)
for Statistics, and Derive for Algebra and Calculus being the primary
examples.
Several open microcomputer labs also provide access to the
instructional
software, and of course the
library has a substantial collection of math and stats related
books
and tapes.
In addition to basic information about our
department and its offerings (including course-by-course
information and resource pages), this web site also includes links
to some
web-based
learning materials and tools from other sites that may be useful
for working in Mathematics
and Statistics as well as other resources
of
a mathematical or educational nature that are not located at Langara
but
which are accessible electronically via the internet.
