2010 SPRING TERM AWARD WINNERS

Langara College recently announced its spring term award winners. This included sixteen scholarships for second year students in the Recreation Leadership Diploma Program.

Andrew Lee won the Course of a Lifetime - Godfrey Mende Award. This award recognizes the student who best demonstrates a professional approach to their Recreation Leadership Diploma studies during the program, including a proactive manner that creates a respectful learning environment in class and internship placements, teamwork on group projects, time management skills, on-going commitment to the program, punctuality and regular attendance.

Pam Berg won the Joe Dukowski Memorial Bursary. This award, sponsored by the RFABC, recognizes a graduating student who demonstrates a talent for, and interest in recreation facilities operation and shows a genuine interest in pursuing a career in this field.

Yash Gill won the Louis Stervinous Memorial Scholarship. This award sponsored by the Canadian Society of Club Managers-Pacific Branch recognizes the student who best demonstrates enthusiasm, motivation, and the character and integrity to provide quality customer service in a private club setting.

Michelle St. Jean won the The Recreation Foundation of B.C. Scholarship This award recognizes the most outstanding graduating student in the Recreation Leadership Diploma Program, as chosen by faculty.  The recipient has excelled in the classroom and as a student intern, exhibited leadership skills in all aspects of the program, and demonstrated a commitment to the broad field of leisure service.

Sophia Hughes won the Hi Pro Sporting Goods Scholarship for having the top G.P.A. in the third term of the program.

Jeremy Quan was the winner of the Wilsher Programming Scholarship. Jason Wilsher, a 2000 program graduate, established the award. This award recognizes a student who demonstrates outstanding leadership in the second term RECR 1168 course.

Kelsey Wagner won the Hardeep Baraich Scholarship (A to Z Arena Products) . This award is for the student who has taken on special projects in an arena environment, is working part-time or full-time to pay for their education, and has performed admirably on an internship in an arena or ice arena related internship.

Kerri Van Eaton won the PERC Excellence Award. This award is for the graduating Langara College recreation student who demonstrates academic achievement and excellence in leadership, initiative, involvement in the community and respect of his/her peers.

Andrew Lee (RECR 1170 - Introduction to Recreation Facilities and Environments) and Sophia Hughes (RECR 1270 - Applied Skills in Recreation Operations) won the Real Estate Foundation of BC Recreation Leadership Diploma Program Scholarships. These two scholarships recognized the student with the top percentage grade in each of the two respective facilities courses in the program.

Pam Berg won the Four the Future Scholarship This award is for the graduating mature student who has shown community involvement (i.e. volunteering) as well as showing leadership amongst their peers.

Michelle St. Jean won the CEI Architecture Recreation Leadership Scholarship. This award is for the student who shows strong leadership and a high level of interest and aptitude in RECR 2361 (Applied Leadership in Recreation Organizations)..

Lori Coleman won the Centaur Products Recreation Leadership Scholarship. This award is for the graduating student who has shown the most dedication and improvement over the duration of the program.

Vanessa Bloodoff won the Smith-Rennie Award for Excellence in Youth Work. This award is for the graduating student who has shown the most interest and aptitude in working in the youth area of recreation.  The successful recipient will have performed well on the internship and have also demonstrated a willingness to help their fellow students during their studies in the program.

Witton Chau won the Walushka-Warwick Amateur Sporting Scholarship. This award is for the student who shows the most interest and aptitude in working in the amateur sports area of recreation. They have performed well during their internship and have shown a willingness to help out their fellow students during their studies in the Program.

J.J. Denholm Awards- are awarded to high achievers graduating from the second year of a two-year Arts and Science Program or the second year of a two-year career program. Michelle St Jean was presented with this award as the career program student winner during the spring Langara College Scholarship Ceremony.

2009 FALL TERM AWARD WINNERS

Langara College recently announced its fall term award winners. This included six scholarships for second year students in the Recreation Leadership Diploma Program.

The Frank J. Zamboni Company / Crocker Equipment Company Ltd. Scholarship recognizes top academic standing in the first year of the program. This year’s winner was Michelle St. Jean .

Kerri Van Eaton won The Linda Robertson Event Planning Award. It is presented to a student registered in the Recreation Leadership Diploma Program who excels in the area of event planning.  The student must have completed RECR 1168 and attained the highest percentage grade in that course.

Vanessa Bloodoff won the D.B. Perks and Associates Scholarship. The winning student must have demonstrated a talent for and an interest in the aquatics area of recreation, as well as a genuine interest in pursuing a career in the field.  The student must also have demonstrated attributes of a diligent self-starter who works hard to accomplish goals that benefit others.

Kerri Van Eaton won the Olympia Ice Resurfacers in conjunction with Vimar Equipment Scholarship. It is for the student who obtains the top percentage grade in RECR 1170 and RECR 1270 (facilities courses).

The R.F.A.B.C. Associates’ Scholarship is presented to a student who shows strong leadership and a high level of interest and aptitude in the RECR 1162 (first year direct leadership in recreation course).  The recipient must also demonstrate a willingness to help their fellow classmates during the Outdoor Field School component of the course. This year’s winner was Sophia Hughes .

Pamela Berg was awarded the Ethan Filosof-Acrylco Dasherboard Award. This award recognizes the student who shows the most interest and best aptitude in the two first year recreation facilities courses.
