Student Biodiversity Project wins at CityStudio Hubbub 7

Langara ENVS 2100* students have developed several CityStudio projects during their fall 2016 semester. They presented their CityStudio projects on December 2nd at the CityStudio Hubbub 7 event.  Three Langara entries were up against 19 other entries, mostly upper-level courses from UBC, SFU, and BCIT.

Congratulations to all the groups on their work and especially to those whose project outlined the creation of a salt marsh in Charleson Park on False Creek. They won third place!

We Shore Can’ aims to increase biodiversity and stem the impact of sea level rise through the development of a small-scale salt marsh and a redesign of the seawall around Charleson Park.

The winning entry’s team included a former Langara student as did one entry of the masters-level teams.

Langara’s Environmental Studies program, in collaboration with CityStudio, matches students with mentors from the City of Vancouver to create projects that, if implemented, will aid in meeting the city’s Greenest City Action Plan and Healthy City Strategy goals and targets.

* ENVS 2100 (Problems and Solutions) is course within the Interdisciplinary Studies Department (IDS) team-taught by instructors from biology (Frank Williams), chemistry (Andrew Mosi) and geography (Drew Egan).
