Brent Searle Receives IUG Beacon Award

Brent Searle Beacon AwardBrent Searle, Systems Manager at Langara Library, accepted the 2017 Beacon Award on April 3, 2017 during the 2017 Innovative Users Group (IUG) Annual Conference in Baltimore.

This award honours “exceptional service to the Innovative Users Community through presentations, collaboration, selfless dedication to libraries as a whole, and sage advice to others via the IUG List. While a great implementation is the product of a great employee, the IUG Beacon Award will acknowledge great community members – people who help others attain greatness and share the knowledge that they gained in the process.”

Brent was nominated for the award by his colleagues at Langara Library. For more than a decade, Brent has made exceptional contributions to the Innovative Users Community. Brent has been unfailingly active on IUG discussion lists, often going out of his way to lend expertise and help other members from around the world find solutions. Brent sends SQL queries, web design tips, and shares icons. He uses screen shots, links to documentation and provides moral support. Here’s some feedback he’s received: “Wow Brent, you are a guru!” “This is amazing! This is perfect! You are brilliant…” “You have gone above and beyond.” “This is perfect.” “Thanks – worked like a charm.” “That’s magic.” “Your query is awesome! Thank you so much! That is exactly what I was looking for.”

Brent has also presented internationally at various IUG conferences, including the III Academic Library Symposium in Toronto and at MENA-IUG in Qatar.

The Library is so proud to have Brent on our team and congratulates him on this well-deserved award!
