ACRL Report CoverThe Association of College & Research Libraries (ACRL) has published their latest report for the “Assessment in Action (AiA): Academic Libraries and Student Success” project. Launched in 2013, the AiA project involves over 200 postsecondary institutions that have created “campus-wide partnerships… to promote collaborative assessment and library leadership.”

The latest project report, published in April 2017, provides evidence that academic libraries contribute in various ways to student learning and success.

As noted in the report’s executive summary:

  • Students benefit from library instruction in their initial coursework.

  • Library use increases student success.

  • Collaborative academic programs and services involving the library enhance student learning.

  • Information literacy instruction strengthens general education outcomes.

  • Library research consultations boost student learning.

In addition to these key findings, there is also evidence that:

  • The library contributes to improved student retention.

  • Library instruction adds value to a student’s long-term academic experience.

  • The library promotes academic rapport and student engagement.

  • Use of library space relates positively to student learning and success.
