Personnel Updates at the Library

Over the past few months, three long-term library staff members entered into well-deserved retirement:

  • Zelja Loncaric, Library Operations Supervisor, continues to explore the world through many fantastic trips and adventures, and even drops by from time to time to help us out.
  • Judy Kornfield, Monographs Librarian, is busy working on her tan and welcoming the arrival of her first grandchild.
  • Brent Searle, Library Systems Manager, has moved to Gabriola Island with his guitar, and is contemplating raising sheep on his spacious woodland property.

Although the 100 years of experience at Langara that our retirees had between them cannot be replaced, the Library is pleased to welcome new staff members:

  • Corrie Playford has joined us as our Science Librarian, bringing with her experience from Conestoga College Library, and before that as a food scientist.
  • Philip Wong, Systems Librarian, has worked as a librarian on three continents, and brings with him a wealth of library systems experience.
  • Amelia “Mia” Clarkson will cover Annie Jensen’s maternity leave, and is a recent graduate of the Master of Information Studies program at the University of Toronto. Most recently she worked as a media librarian at the CBC.
  • Julie Cole, our new Library Systems Administrator, is a graduate of the Langara Library and Technology program, and brings with her years of IT experience from the financial sector.

Even with all these changes, the Library looks forward to welcoming yet another staff member later this year as Lindsay Tripp prepares for her maternity leave.

Please join us in welcoming Corrie, Philip, Mia, and Julie to Langara—we look forward to their fresh perspectives and enthusiasm! And best of luck to our good friends and old colleagues, Zeljka, Judy and Brent, as they embark on their latest adventures!
