VHS at Langara

As you have hopefully heard, by September 2018 VHS will no longer be a supported format at the college and VHS players are already being phased out of classrooms. During this transition, AV/IT has increased the number of laptops available to faculty for use on campus.

The Library is hard at work determining which of our VHS titles are still being used and how we can replace these with either DVD or streaming video. VHS titles that are no longer being used or of value will be removed from our collection. These decisions will, as usual, be made in close consultation among faculty, subject librarians, and departments.

If you still use VHS in your curriculum, please email aclarkson@langara.ca with the following:

  • What titles you use, and when you plan to use them
  • What format you would ideally prefer to use moving forward (DVD and/or streaming media)

The Library will make every effort to replace VHS titles that are still valuable to instruction at Langara. However, this has a significant cost and we strongly encourage you to work with your subject librarian to consider potential alternatives that we may already have in our collection.
