New Library Collection: SAGE Premier

Langara Library takes an evidence-based approach to collection development. One way this works is that we look at data such as interlibrary loan requests and turnaway reports to show us what resources our users are seeking out that we are currently unable to provide. A turnaway is when someone tries to access a full text article but can’t because we don’t have a subscription. An interlibrary loan request is when a user tells us they need a particular book or article, and we then go to another library to get a copy of that item for them.

We’ve seen significant increases to our interlibrary loan requests over the last five years. In 2015, based on these requests, the Library added two large journal collections: the Wiley Online Library and the Taylor and Francis Social Sciences and Humanities Collection. This year we’ve added another collection, SAGE Premier, based on those high interlibrary loan numbers and turnaways — more than 1800 turnaways in the first half of 2018!

SAGE Premier is a collection of over 1000 full text peer-reviewed journals from SAGE Publications across a variety of disciplines, including the sciences, humanities, social sciences, business, and nursing. You can access SAGE Premier on campus and off-campus at the following link: https://login.ezproxy.langara.bc.ca/login?url=http://journals.sagepub.com/search/advanced
