BCcampus webinar: Discovering Openness in Your Research

July 23, 2020 @ 11:00 am – 12:00 pm

Open education focuses on making resources and knowledge accessible to and usable by everyone; however, this goal can be met in different ways. Through this webinar, I will invite you to consider different ways of viewing openness in your own research. To begin, I will share with you my research project, engaging communities in collaboration through online communities of inquiry. At its core, this research is aimed at making community engagement more accessible to individuals who are inhibited from attending face-to-face, synchronous events. Current participatory guidance does not include recommendations relating to online methods that allow co-construction of knowledge and exploration of issues. The study seeks to determine if the community of inquiry model could be applied to bring community members together online to collaborate on community issues. Openness can be seen in collaborative community engagement and the community of inquiry model which both aim to bring people together to co-construct knowledge, the goal of the research to make these collaborative opportunities accessible to everyone, the application of free, open tools as well as the goal of sharing a successful educational model with another field. Take the time to join the webinar and consider your own research through the broad lens of openness.
